Making fragrance from my mother’s rose bushes when I was a child – I had so much fun with my friends picking the petals and bottling the fragrance to sell to our family, friends, and neighbours!

My Mum and Grandma are both smokers and both use Channel no.5 perfume. I associate the combined smell of cigarette smoke and channel 5 with my childhood. Hugs from my mother or grandmother before an evening out. Or staying at grandparents, being tucked into bed by grandma and hearing the deep men’s voices lull me to sleep.

I really like the notion of scents being these little time machines that bring us right back to exact same place and time. For me there is one particular scent that is imprinted in my memory and it’s the scent of my mothers red lipstick. Creamy hues, red rose, dewy petals all of the scents are so alluring it makes me want to eat it! It was the time I started to wonder about how scents evoke our other senses and they have this wonderful power about them.
